3 Ways To Wing It As A Parent

I remember the moment I found out I was pregnant, I was in utter shock, totally unplanned in all honesty I thought me and my then flatmate just had a bad bottle of wine the night before, but no, it was much more than that, that was the day my life changed.

8 months later, the love of my life was born, an easy labour, well depending on what side of the bed you look at it, I did have my mother in a headlock, kicked the poor midwife in the face whilst I probably looked like Regan from the exorcist, quite frankly I thought I was a treat ha!

With my wolf baby in my arms (she was very hairy - kinda guess from all the acid reflux) I felt right there and then my life had only just begun.

Every parent all over the world has them! A brilliant shortcut to make your life easier, a lot less stressful and by goddamit to have something for yourself.

Hiding treats like a pro
Now, I must confess I’m not a chocolate fan, I prefer chewy sweets like Haribo, but on the odd occasion I fancy a sweet treat from time to time, I can’t keep anything for myself in the open, as sure enough Leanora and Milo (cat) will find it and scoff the lot! I learnt my lesson last year with my Ferrero Rochers. So I found the perfect way to stash my loot! Kale crisp bags! Leanora won’t go anywhere near these beauties which is great for me as anytime I fancy a little treat, I am guaranteed to have one.

Artistic Mess
Honestly, I can’t stand it, whilst I’m more than happy to have L paint in the house, it never ends up on the paper, more like the walls, tv and even the cat! So for a little less cleaning in my life and a lot more money saved in the form of white paint for my walls, I get Leanora in the garden and paint out there, so any mess she makes won’t be in the house and what ends up on the floor will be washed away when it next rains, plus an added bonus I’m able to the gardening and keep an eye on her at the same time.

Snack time
We all can agree too much snacking is bad for you especially when it is the unhealthy kind, but don’t beat yourself up about it, be kind to yourself. Rather than have L kick off in public wanting something to snack on, I always make sure to have a bag of snacks in my Ikea freezer bags. Now don’t get me wrong I don’t mind her having a chocolate here and there but a great shortcut I find that works for me and Leanora is making something at home, say our cheese and chive scones together or even having a bag of carrots or cucumbers and what is better, I find she will be more inclined to eat more healthy treats if she helps prepare it alongside me.

I recently read a post by another blogger Lucy post called the Fucket List a really great read, on cutting shortcuts and just owning and embracing all things that come with being a parent.

How are you winging it in parent life, do you have any great shortcuts or hacks even? Let me know in the comments below!

Moji Pops | Kids New Best Friend

Are you ready for them? Make way, there is a new colourful toy on the scene now, it’s the loveable Moji Pops! Have you heard of them? Neither had we until recently. They are a fun new range of toys made up of everyday objects brought to life as fun characters with an array of colourful emotions based on popular emoticons.

I knew Leanora would love them the moment we got them and I must confess I enjoyed playing with them too, my favourites are the limited edition rare sparkly ones.

She was super excited to receive her gift pack and couldn’t wait to open her blind bags, it’s the unknown that kids love the surprise of not knowing which emoji pop you will find hidden in the bag. It was also great to see her get right in and create a story play it’s the I like Playset, she was able to build on that with the Story Playset, she was able to jump from a beach party to a sing-off between the cat and teapot, with Mr television acting as Simon Cowell.

There are a whopping 90 different characters from cats, ice creams, tea pots and even a television to collect which means endless fun and role play set up for the kids, which is great to get there imaginations going in the form of play, with loads of emotions and moods thanks to the interchangeable faces its a great way to get the kids creative as well as learning about different emotions through the art of play.

My thoughts on these cuties are great, not just for the collectibility but helping Leanora with any emotions she may have, for example her teacher told me the other day that she and her friend squeezed out and used all the soap up in the toilets at school, so by using these Moji Pops, I was able to express to Leanora that it is not a good thing to do, which makes everyone sad, but if she wants to use hand soap in the future, don’t forget sharing is caring and using a little is good, plus it will mare her happy knowing that there is soap to help clean her hands to protect her from germs #TrueStory

Not only are the great for expressing our feeling and exploring the world of play, but they are also affordable too as the blind bags are only 90p perfect for the kids to buy if they get pocket money along with Story Playset SD as they are only £2.50. The large play sets are £12 each and the Blister Glitter Surprise are £10 each. Leanora is desperate for more playsets and with her 5th birthday coming up, she may jus5 be in luck, well as long as there are no more soap accidents at school.

You can purchase the Moji Pops now at Amazon and The Entertainer.

Cheese And Chive Scones

Cheese and chive are a match made in heaven, they go hand in hand and these scones are a perfect treat. Every day I struggle on what to have for
breakfast, I have to say I love a bacon sandwich, I’m also partial to a cheeky sausage roll from Greggs from time to time, whilst these are not great foodie eats to have on a daily basis, I really struggle on what to eat, I’m not a cereal person, I can just about manage granola and hell no to porridge! But a freshly baked scone, a cheesy one, now that’s my jam!

A scone is not only just for breakfast, it’s a great snack to enjoy any time of the day, served hot or cold and with a slither or chive butter spread on top when hot is a game changer, pressed for time this is the ultimate go-to dish that delivers total full flavour and can be made early in the morning before you head out and all you need are a few supermarket staples.

7, that’s it and that is the amount of ingredients you need to make these scones to eat on your own whilst hot out of the oven, serve up to friends and family at tea time or to score some brownie points with your colleagues, and a great after school treat for the kiddos, these cheese and chive scones are simply life changing!

Ingredients to make 12

2 cups of self raising flour
60 grams of butter
1 cup of milk
A pinch of salt
3 tbsp of finely chopped chives
1 cup of grated cheese
1 beaten egg

Directions

1. Preheat your over to 220c and pop in your muffin tray.

2. In a mixing bowl, pour in your flour, butter and salt, rub together until it forms a breadcrumb consistency

3. Make a well in the centre of your dough and pour in your milk, add your chopped chives and cheese. Using a flat cake knife, stir until it almost comes together, mine was a little wet, but don’t be put off.

4. Flour a clean surface and turn out your mixture and gently knead until dough comes together.

5. Press out your dough to about a 3cm thickness, I don't have scone cutter, but you can use a small drinking glass, or as I did, I tore off a handful size amount of dough rolled it into a ball popped into a muffin tin and brushed them with the beaten egg.

6. Place into the oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until light and golden on the top.

This Week's Reading List

Hey guys, this weekend we bagged ourselves some great new books to read, as you know I don’t go anywhere without a book in my bag and whilst most nights I try to Leanora, she kinda enjoys reading aloud on her own, especially when we are tucked up in bed. I’m a big advocate of getting kids to read more and step away from the iPad and other electronics, if you can’t get out to your nearest book store and pressed for time, you can get some great free ebooks to download too.

Leanora and I’s favourite book, A Patch Of Black, by Rachel Rooney and Deborah Allwright, is one of the best children’s books I’ve read in a long time, the illustration is not only beautiful and vibrant the story is wonderful too. If you have kids who do not necessarily like the dark or do not want to go to sleep, this is a story about encouraging your child not to be scared as a new adventure awaits them, this makes for the perfect bedtime book!

Chéri, a beautiful book about devouring of the flesh written Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, this books is as sensuous and passionate as her real life. A book that devoured in a mere two days, it’s about an ageing courtesan who meets a handsome playboy half her age who she is forced to give up, but the flesh wants what it wants.

Which little girl does not love unicorns, this book Ten Minutes To Bed Little Unicorn, another perfect bedtime reading, the little unicorn is reluctant to go to bed and wants to stay awake and explore, sound familiar? Well, little unicorn stresses she is not tired and gallops off it into the magical forest causing a little trouble along the way where, she meets a troll a dragon and other mythical creatures before realising she has gone too far and forgotten to get home, a little upset she makes a wish and rainbow appears helping her to guide her way back.

Deliciously Ella, Every Day may not be her latest, but it’s certainly a tasty recipe, lifestyle book. I’m finding that the older I get, my body inside is changing, of late I’ve been feeling a little bloated which is uncomfortable, to say the least, so I’m looking to change my diet and lifestyle and Ella’s book is packed with meals for every day, and perfect for the spring season. As she herself has dietary requirements to help her manage day to day, I’ve found that these recipes too help my digestive system, especially with her juices packed with ingredients such as ginger or turmeric which is great for the gut plus they packed with loads of fresh fruit and veg, plus for those looking to eat a little less meat but still want to get the fuller meatier taste sensation her dinner dishes fuelled with beans and other pulses I cannot recommend enough.

Let me know what you think of these books have you and your children read any of these? Let me know in your comments below.

Dining In London? Why You Must!

We’ve all had the chat, pretty much on a daily basis, for me it is probably the one of the most talked about discussions that we have in the office! Where to eat and drink in London.

With so many restaurants, pop up’s, dining events, food markets, tv shows (my favourite, Come Dine With Me) even to those that love cooking for friends and family be it at home or a new thing which I love is, hosted dinner or brunch in a private dining rooms, we are simply spoilt for choice. I love to be adventurous and enjoy trying new dishes and cuisines from all over the world and I find that my hometown London offers that.

Honestly going out to dine in London is one of my favourite things to do here, be it on my lunch break, out and about with Leanora or friends and family, it is like each week something new and interesting is opening up on the streets here, it’s so diverse and I have to say I am quite spoilt for choice. I think for us Londoners or those that come over here for holidays, love and know that you can find a great place to eat and drink here, be it for a family get together to a reunion and catch up with friends, or those that crave a little something new  or a little bit more intimate for date night, you know that you have come to the right place!

To keep me up to date on what is new and trending and helping me find something a little different I can always be found scouring the squaremeal website for something a little different and innovative, be it a 10 piece tasting menu being offered, which does not only tickle my taste buds, but also makes for a great present for a friend. You will also find restaurants that have popped up in your local area, or if you fancy something a little further afield.

Another great source of finding something new and different is via Instagram, with restaurants and cafes all vying for the perfect instagrammable decor be it cafes with bright pink exteriors, flower walls, futuristic egg shaped toilets, to horticultural inspired eateries for people to come eat and drink and take a selfie or two, it anther great source and friendly place to start for the perfect London dining experience.

Speaking of yummy food, I’ve loads of tasty dishes that I’ve made which you can find on my recipe section here or you can also find what I’ve been whipping up on my Bloglovin page and inspo over on Pinterest, plus keep your eyes peeled and check back as I’ll be sharing a new dish this week on the blog.

I am always in the hunt for something new and interesting to try so if you know if any great spots be it new or old, I would love for you to share it with me in the comments below.

Why I Am Wearing Back My Glasses

That feeling of waking up in the middle of the night, grappling with your bedside lamp, hard to locate as you can barely open dry irritable eyes, all thanks to the contact lenses you were too lazy to take out, sound familiar! You! That’s me pretty me much most nights.

I’ve been blind as a bat since the age of 8 years old, where I spent most of my child and teen years looking like Penfold from Danger Mouse and now that I am in my 30's I have finally decided to embrace wearing my glasses.

Whilst life can be a little trickier with glasses, I mean the number of times I've left them on my desk or bedside table in a mad dash can be somewhat frustrating, however I find that they are more comfortable than my contact lenses, but saying that it did take me a day or two to finally adjust back to wearing glasses again.

With the right pair of glasses, you can feel your best, but with so many shapes and styles it can be hard to find the perfect pair, for me I say embrace them all, don't just stick to the bog standard owl, cat eye, square shapes, but be experimental and get creative, be it with colour, metal you name it.

If you are fading it hard to find the perfect pair of sunglasses in store, you can even by your own pair and have your prescriptive lenses installed at your local opticians. If you are looking for something a little luxurious then Net-A-Porter / Net-A-Porter USA have you covered something a little more affordable then ASOS /ASOS USA have an abundance of designers stocked, they even have their own range with various affordable styles.

April Wish List

Hey guys! I have had a super busy morning, last night I was feeling so lazy, I could not be bothered to hang out the washing, I literally wanted to crash as I had spent most of last night, glueing my fingers together, making Leanora's Easter hat for her parade this morning and I have to say, she looked super cute along with the other children in her class.

I can not believe how quick this year is going and we are already in April, with the weather undecided on what it wants to do, I mean we are what day 3 in to April and we've already had sun, showers and even hail stone's, making it super tricky on deciding on what to wear, but alas it is April, and with that comes April showers!

I've created a wish list of items, to help see us through this unpredictable month and prepare us for Spring and upcoming holidays.

1. H&M Utility Dress, honestly this is a perfect item to see us into Spring. I am a major fan of all things military and having a military dress is great for day to night, teamed with some gold jewellery and some flats you will look great from sunrise to sunset.

2. Short Sleeved Cashmere Knit, A light and airy sweater to keep you warm and looking super stylish, great worn with jeans or a silky skirt.

3. Raffia Bag, This bag is high up on my owns list, it is perfect for holidays and if you have a little one it is large enough to fit everything in, plus look at the detail is so beautiful I've fallen in love with it.

4. Swimwear, I am dreaming of our beach holiday this year, I am still undecided on where to go be it Greece, Spain or Italy for some fun in the sun but where I go this and Other Stories goes too.

5. Sleeveless Lyocell Twist Knot Midi Dress, we all need a black dress, it is a classic and timepiece and a great addition to our wardrobe. I'd pair this dress with a denim jacket, some gold hoops and sandals and I am good to go and conquer the day.

6. Black Hoop Sandals from Mango, a much needed essential for a Spring wardrobe is a good stylish pair of flats, I love the hoop design in these sandals, which are very minimalist.

7. Light Wash Denim Jacket from H&M, every year I get a new denim jacket I have a slight obsession with them, they are great for layering and look good worn with just about anything, this is a super affordable one that I will no doubt be wanting to wear into the summer season also.

8. Wide leg cream H&M trousers, I love a white pair of trousers, jeans too, I do not often get to wear them as I have Miss Sticky Fingers Leanora around, but I love the shape and no doubt will be packing her off to the grandparents just so that I can wear them on a night out, with the cream knit, denim jacket and sandals and raffia bag.

What Items are on your wish list this April?

Ultimate Toasted Cheese Sandwich

It is the ultimate in comfort food, all the ingredients are sitting nicely waiting for you to cook’em up and when brought all together it’s like little angels singing the perfect hymn in your mouth.
The ultimate cheese sandwich screams comfort, perfect for a weekend brekkie in bed or a little naughty mid-week treat. Hands down you know you can not beat it, it's great and damn sure it can be eaten at any time of the day, I mean cheese a naughty wedge of bread a cheeky bit of butter what’s not to love!

I love cheese, the kids love cheese, you love it, well all freaking love cheese especially melted that bubbly molten golden silky cheeses gouda goo is a thing of wonders and this bad boy is jazzed ups or perfection.

With rain and cold weather about to grab us here on old Blighty and before you ask, no this is not an April fools joke, boy I wish it were, this toasted cheese sandwich is the perfect comfort food. Another one of my favourite comfort foods in my leftover humble chicken pot pie or my cauliflower cheese & pancetta soup, or if looking for something a little lighter but still comforting then you damn well gotta try my kale pesto pasta, after why not curl up on the sofa with a new book with my ultra tasty moon milk

This version of cheese sandwich takes no time to make at all, and it's super versatile, I'll be trying it with a different cheese and maybe knock up super fresh pesto to go with it, but for now I certainly recommend that you guys try this tonight, a great meat-free dish, this would work also wonders as an accompaniment to my gazpacho dish or served with a salad too.

Ingredients - To make 2

4 slices of fresh bloomer bread (or bread of choice)
10 slices of Gouda cheese (or any other good melting cheese)
sprinkle of chilli flakes
2 large nobs of butter
sprig of thyme
1 clove of garlic

Instructions

1. In a small pot melt butter, with grated garlic and add a sprig of thyme.

2. whilst butter mixture is melting, heat up a frying pan with a small cube of butter to coat the frying pan. Cut your slices of bread. Once butter has melted brush over bread and then place bread brushed side down.

3. Add on top of the non buttered side of your bread 3 slices of cheese, sprinkle some of your chilli flakes on top, add the last two pieces of cheese on top, then place non brushed side down of your bread and place on top something heavy (tin of beans to press down the bread.

4. After 3/4 minutes turn over your toasted cheese sandwiches and fry on the other side.

5. Serve immediately, works great with a side salad, or if feeling extra naughty a few slices of Proscuitto ham.

What To Check Before You Set Off On Your Staycation

Let's face it, we are all excited for the half term approaching and I am literally counting down the days and ticking off the dates on the calendar and counting down all the minutes until I can say 'see ya later' to all my work colleagues and hit out on to the open road.

We are planning on driving down to the seaside and staying with friends for a few days, nothing refreshing and more relaxing than spending time smelling the salty sea air and basking in the open fields and recharging my mind, body and soul.

This half term is all about us enjoying our staycation, it is great as it gives us an opportunity to explore old blighty and it's beautiful shores and sceneries that it has to offer, it is great for saving money going on a staycation, as the summer holidays will no doubt whizz round and wanting to travel then too, plus it is great time for me to put my car in to be checked and fully MOT'd.

We are heading out of London this Spring half term, as you know Congested roads are an issue all over the UK but especially in London so why stay here, I want to enjoy and have fun this half term, but before we do I think it is is time for me to put the car in for an MOT.

As a car owner, I know the importance of having an MOT carried out on to my car, it is important to protect my family, me and others on the road too, we all want and need to be safe and not having your car regularly checked or booked in for an MOT can be extremely dangerous. I know some may find going to the garage a little tedious, stressful too, but it is important to check the vehicle's safety and its roadworthiness, some people simply do not know where to even go or where to begin about booking your car to be checked, but I found that DAT Tyres website lets you book MOT in London online, easy as 1, 2 and 3.

MOT's take no time at all once booked in, about an hour and your whole car is fully checked out and they make sure everything is in working order, they look underneath the car, checking the suspension, shock absorbers, brakes, wheel bearings, fuel system, exhaust, drive shafts and steering. Plus they will pop the hood and they’ll check that the battery and electronics look good. Failing to not have an MOT will not only incur you a whopping fee of up to £1000, but you could also be putting your vehicle and others around your in harm's way, your vehicle can lose control without proper brakes, your fuel consumption would increase leaving a hole in your pocket.

Before heading out this staycation, I thoroughly suggest that you regularly check your car’s engine oil, the water level in the radiator, the brake fluid level and the battery. Not to mention the tyres and tread depth. If you follow all of this advice you and your car will be ok, plus it is vital you know where all these things are, if not when you put your car in for an MOT ask, better to ask than to not.

4 Things To Look Forward To This Spring

The season has finally changed and I feel like I can breathe again and my spirit is lifted. Spring brings about new inspirations, bright longer days and the trees bloom with beautiful magnolias and other pretty spring blossom blooms.

I am loving that when I wake up in the morning I am doing so much more and when I leave work it’s still nice and bright outside, which makes me feel energised and instead of jumping on the tube I pop my headphones and walk home listening to my favourite podcasts.

There are 4 things to look forward to this Spring and I am sharing my fabulous 4 with you!

Linen
I am drawn to lighter fabrics in the Spring months it’s nice and light and so breathable a classic piece to your Spring wardrobe. Quite frankly I love Mangos linen dresses, they have so many which I have left for you to peruse below along with some other brands too.

Shop Linen Dresses

Brighter days
With the clocks changing in a few days, we will have a lot more brighter days for longer, no more waking up in the dark and having to drag yourself out of bed and then finishing work in darkness. I say make the most of the daylight saving season and get out as much as possible and enjoy it.

Early morning run
Now, this is my favourite thing to do in Spring! Whilst I wake up a little earlier, which is fine as I am an early bird knowing that you have to wait until midday, I can get out so much earlier for an early morning run, it’s a great way to start your day before work or whatever you have planned, it totally puts you in a great mindset and ready to face the day and leaves you so much healthier at the same time.

Flowers
With cherry blossom trees bursting all over the place making our view a lot more pleasurable and pretty daffodils springing up all over the parks, I know it’s time for my favourite blooms to soon arrive in to the flower stalls and supermarkets and I’m bursting with excitement as I can not wait to see and buy my favourite peony flowers to brighten up not only my day but home to, I think adding flowers in to ones home is not only uplifting but the bring beautiful scent in also.

What do you love most about Spring?

Last Minute Mother's Day Gift Guide 2019

I have a confession, I have yet to purchase a mothers day present! I know, I know I am such a bad daughter, what I have been thinking about is where to eat, you can always rely on me to think of my gut first and everything else is secondary.

When it comes to gifts for special people in my life, I always end up getting them the same thing, may sound a little lazy, but it is always what they want and I try and to aim to please. This year I'm not going to get the same beauty products, son mum, but I am going to treat you to something different, plus, maybe just maybe it is what I want from my daughter, obviously an abundance of hugs and kisses, plus my girl as you may of heard on my Twitter page, she has learnt and decided on how to wash up, an added bonus present if you will.

With Spring officially here, there is no better time to invest in some classic linen dresses and every year Mango has a great selection of beautiful cut linen dresses. I do not think any of us are ready to officially bare our toes and a great pair of luxe sneakers like these Veja's are what most women have been lusting after, especially for those busy mums on the run.

A great face oil always makes for the perfect gift and for those wanting to try a new brand that works wonders, Herbivore's, Lapis Balancing Facial Oil is a beautiful addition to anyone beauty regime for glowing skin this Spring and if like my mother they are big beauty fans another beautiful gift is the Drunk Elephant gift set which you can purchase at Space NK also, is perfect for the jetting Mumma.

Accessories, who doesn't love them from this super cute handbag from Topshop perfect for your mother to carry for the Mother's Day lunch and these beautiful shell earrings from Mango.

Who doesn't love a naughty piece of chocolate and who better to turn to for something luxurious, non-other than Liberty, I remember my mother use to meeting me here after I finished work and hands down I'd always find her in the confectionary area bagging a few treats.

There is no mum in this world that would not want a beautiful smelling candle, I for one love them and Santal 26 have beautiful scents perfect to burn of an evening, talking of what better way to relax than with a new set of jammies and these cozy Just Sheepskin slippers, with your feet up of a night, candle burning with a book in hand and little piece and quite.
